Since a few of our readers didn’t exactly seem to appreciate the value of expanding their vocabulary, not to mention our liberal application of figurative speech, I’ve decided a version two is in order.

Hit the cut for specifics! (Spoilers included.)
To clarify, yes, Haruto is the YELLOW rose. If you read the translation notes, you’d see that Schwartz was just being poetic in his choice of words. This fact was evident in the original Japanese, where the passage had both a “phonetic” [literal] reading as well as an “implied” meaning, a feature common to the language. (Schwartz originally calls Haruto the “Golden Rose”, the implied meaning being the “Yellow Rose.”)

I read version one (in detail) and it made me greatly respect you as a translator. Now you come again with a simpler version (I guess people don’t have the time or patience to read the notes) and now I respect you even greater. Thank you for the work you’ve done. I’m psyched for your next release of a new series, whichever it might be ^____^

I FINALLY found some time to start reading this manga and I had reached ch3 when I found that you changed the name of the main character. Why did you do that AND didn’t release a v2 for ch1&2 with the new name? I wonder… (?)

We’ll get around to a v2 for chapters 1 and 2 eventually, but for now we’re focusing on getting out different titles. As for the name change, we explained that in the credits page of chapter three. In short, when we started scanlating Barajou, we had to guess at what Anise’s name would be in English, since we didn’t have an official romanization at that point. We figured we’d go with Agnes since it’s pronounced the same, and it seemed to be the more common romanization of similar names, but the official romanization of volume one gave her name as “Anis”, which Melly and I thought would be too difficult to pronounce correctly in one’s head. We decided to go with “Anise” because the pronunciation is closer to the original Japanese.

“Anis” (well, it’s written “anís”) is the spanish form of “anise” (she is still a plant, but not a rose, lol).
