And it falls on the poor site admin to rewrite the FAQ. Well, I need to earn my keep somehow! First we’ll get the obvious stuff out of the way so those of you new to the scene can figure out what’s going on. After that we’ll go into site stuff.
What are scanlations?
Scanlating is the act of scanning, translating, and editing manga (or other comics) from one language to another so they may be enjoyed by an audience which would not normally have access to a certain series. In some cases it involves redoing a series that has already been released in a different language because of quality disputes. Scanlations, like fansubs, are in a legally grey area when certain conditions (including the removal of a series after its license) are met. You can read more on scanlations here.
Can we translate your releases into another language?
Before attempting to translate any of our releases into another language, please contact us via email or the forums so we can discuss the matter further. Usually we don’t have any problem with other groups using scripts for translating purposes as long as credit remains intact, but under no circumstances are our actual scans to be used by another group for releases. If you want to re-translate, please find your own raw sources. DO NOT USE TURTLE PARADISE’S SCANS. Clear enough? Our only exception is out of print material and doujinshi, but again, please contact us through the forum or email before taking on any projects!
How do I download from your site?
Turtle Paradise offers all releases on local servers, so a release can be downloaded just by clicking a link. Many of our releases are also available on online manga sites such as OneManga and MangaFox.
Alright, alright, I get it. But what the hell is “doujinshi”?
This one’s actually a little difficult. Loosely speaking, doujinshi are comics that are never commercially released, although the stuff we release here is strictly regulated to fanworks based on pre-existing series. Even so, many professional manga-ka release doujinshi, including Ken Akamatsu, Nodoka Kiyose, and Arina Tanemura (+assistants). In a sense it’s glorified fanfiction, but many circles are wildly popular and become professionals; a prime example is the group CLAMP.

“Turtle Paradise”? Wait, what?
You know, the site name made sense when we were sticking to our original stuff. Turtle Paradise was initially founded as a repository for Rebmastu’s Final Fantasy VII doujinshi. Get where I’m going? Turtle Paradise was the name of a bar (or restaurant, depending on how you look at it), which had a lengthy and kind of annoying sidequest attached to it. We wanted to go with the connotations of a nice place where you could chill with some doujinshi, but also give the impression that it’s a little annoying. And when you abbreviate it, it’s TP. Don’t tell me you don’t know what that stands for. But then Mikyu on LiveJournal posted their scans of Datenroku, and with no translations in sight, Rebmastu offered her help. Since then, she got caught up in this whole translation thing and dragged me down with her. Dammit.

Hi, I’d like to retranslate Barajou no Kiss into Portuguese (Brazil). Our purpose is pretty much the same as yours: make the author’s work more acessible. This way it may become more popular in Brazil and hopefully licensed. :D

You’re free to use our translations (with credit + link), but please use your own raws. =3 (We suggest buying the original volumes from Amazon.jp, yesasia or any number of online retailers to support the author.)

Dunno where you can find it. It was released by CPM years back but they omitted volume 8- that’s why it’s the only volume we did.

hmm i wonder if you can get a hold on a manga that I(and other known lovers) want and its called Seven Days. well mangafox has the 1st volume but partly of the 2nd one too, but in unknown reasons they cant find people to translate. so i was wondering if ya’ll could do something???

No, we can’t. First of all, it’s not our policy to pick up series that are already being worked on by other groups. Secondly, Seven Days was recently licensed by June manga, and we don’t scanlate manga that’s already been licensed. Please be patient and wait for the English release! Seven Days is a personal favorite of mine, and I really can’t wait to own it in English =3

As we outlined up in the FAQ, no, you can’t use our scans. You can use the script to translate from English to Spanish, but you’ll have to find our own raw source.
